A detailed overview of the neurocognitive disturbances associated with HIV infection is provided. The chapter discusses definitions, disease characteristics, and epidemiology. A review of the neuropathological and disease-related correlates of cognitive disturbances, on risk factors that may contribute to cognitive complications, and on the impact of cognitive disturbances on social and occupational functioning, health, and early mortality. Therapeutic modalities are developed.
