In this chapter, we summarize some basic principles that are applicable in clinical practice and in research on psychoactive medication, and then we describe specific instrument options. Although we use attentiondeficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as a frequent example, the principles are generally applicable to the assessment of most disorders.
