In a number of central nervous system disorders other than ADHD and Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive deficits are at least part of the clinical picture, and it should be recognized that the development of drugs to alleviate these symptoms is an equally important challenge for drug discovery. These include aspects of cognitive dysfunction in advanced Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia (as discussed in Chapter 15), obsessive–compulsive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, depression of the elderly, and drug addiction.
