Chapter 4 attempts to understand the patient by considering the contextual elements for each consultation. It will consider the inputs to, and outcomes of, medical consultations from the patient’s perspective. This chapter along with Chapter 5, which considers the doctor’s perspective, and Chapter 6, which focuses on consultation processes, covers the entire input-process-outcome model that comprises the cycle of care.
