Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is increasingly used in the management of acute kidney injury in critically ill patients. Given the relatively slow fluid and solute removal, CRRT may offer better hemodynamic stability when compared to intermittent hemodialysis. Although well-tolerated in general, CRRT may cause serious and life-threatening electrolyte imbalances that require urgent intervention by the intensivist.
