The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the technical and practical features of needles, guidewires, and catheters. The chapter also addresses microcatheters, microwires, and sheaths. Surprisingly, the value of choosing the correct combination of wires and catheters to use is at times understated. Understanding the benefits and drawbacks of commonly used instruments will facilitate preprocedure planning, increase procedural success and ultimately optimize patient outcomes.
