This chapter, found in the cancer screening and management section of the book, provides a succinct synopsis of a key study examining the efficacy of low-dose computed tomography screening for lung cancer. This summary outlines the study methodology and design, major results, limitations and criticisms, related studies and additional information, and clinical implications. The study showed that annual low-dose CT screening among high-risk individuals decreases lung cancer mortality. While the rate of false positives was nearly 3 times higher for those screened by low-dose CT compared to chest radiography, complications from invasive diagnostic evaluation after positive screens were rare.
