When caring for veterans at end of life, the advanced practice registered nurse should be aware of the challenges unique to veterans that may accompany a serious illness. This chapter examines the impact that the American military culture on veterans’ experiences. . It reviews the health challenges associated with recent wars and provides resources to augment care specific to veterans. Government benefits provided to veterans are discussed. Manifestations of post-traumatic stress disorder at the end of life are examined.
