This chapter outlines how best to introduce palliative care to patients, families, clinicians, and other stakeholders. Since the advanced practice registered nurse often leads palliative care programs, it is important that he or she understands basic social marketing principles on how to introduce and promote such programs. Marketing challenges include the public’s lack of awareness of palliative care; a tendency to equate it with end of life or hospice care; and the human tendency not to think about or plan for death.
