The advanced practice registered nurse plays a key role in the outpatient palliative management in end-stage renal disease, ALS, and HIV/AIDs and pulmonary disease. Patients’ and families’ unrealistic expectations of treatment outcomes, especially if there are a wide range of options that may prolong life especially with advancing technology.
