Given the broad diversity of movement disorders, with a number of rare and unusual conditions, the nature of the movement disorder or the referral will not be clear on presentation. In addition, some patients will have complex disorders in which there are multiple types of movements present; in such cases, one cannot easily pick a specific movement disorders protocol and a general protocol is desired that has a high probability to capture the key elements of any disorder. The general movement disorders protocol captures the key elements that are needed for any reasonable video. Other examination findings that need highlighting may be added at the discretion of the examiner. This protocol forms the core of the other movement disorder videotaping protocols.
