The use of adjuvant therapies in early breast cancer has improved prognosis and reduced recurrence rates. The acute effects of chemotherapy are well established and are important considerations in each patient’s management. The long-term effects of chemotherapy require further research to predict risks, identify early signs of toxicity, and treat these effectively to prevent long-term morbidity and mortality. The use of drugs which can affect the cardiovascular system in the short and long term requires an understanding of these risks and the use of appropriate monitoring. This chapter uses a case history to explore the factors contributing to heart failure and other potential late effects of chemotherapy.
