Evidence-based mental health practices (EPBs) are scientifically validated interventions that help people with mental illnesses to achieve improvements in meaningful areas of their lives. Developing and establishing an EBP requires attention to scientific detail, considerable time, and multiple steps. We have described the major steps as: 1) articulation of the problem area, 2) identification of possible treatments, 3) pilot testing the intervention, and 4) controlled evaluation of the intervention.
