Chapter 11 review the promise and challenges of psychopharmacotherapy for refugee patients with an emphasis on the importance of accurate diagnosis, systematic assessment of patients’ belief systems, involvement of family and other trusted community members, and careful attention to medication adherence. A brief overview of the rapidly expanding literature on pharmacogenetics/pharmacogenomics and its relevance to refugee populations is also included.
