Neuroma is a benign condition that is associated with growth or tumor of the nerve tissue. This pain generator can be a cause of debilitating neuropathic pain if not properly addressed. The clinical hallmarks of neuroma include the presence of a scar in close proximity that causes substantial pain in the distribution of the involved nerve. This chapter discusses the definition, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of neuroma. It also reviews common neuromas encountered in clinical practice. A treatment algorithm is presented to guide clinicians as a plausible approach to managing this complex pain syndrome. Painful neuroma following a peripheral nerve injury maybe refractory to treatment. Hence, prevention is the key to neuroma management.
