This chapter focuses on the utility of spinal fluid evaluation and on the aspects of CSF evaluation that are useful clinically. The anatomy and physiologic aspects of the ventricles and spinal fluid are discussed elsewhere. The total volume of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within ventricles and subarachnoid space is about 150 mL. The absorption of CSF is directly linked to intracranial pressure.
