Abstract

50 Studies Every Pediatrician Should Know presents key studies that have shaped the practice of pediatrics. As with the other volumes in the 50 Studies Every Doctor Should Know series, the studies herein represent the cumulative “canon” that many physicians have created individually and together to better understand the evidence behind pediatrics. Selected using a rigorous methodology, which included discussions with many of the original authors or research team members, the studies cover topics including general pediatrics, behavioral pediatrics, infectious diseases, cardiology, neonatology, endocrinology, allergy/immunology, rheumatology, nephrology, hematology, dermatology, otolaryngology, and orthopedics, and represent the current controlling evidence in pediatrics. For each study, a concise summary in presented with an emphasis on the results and limitations of the study, as well as its implications for practice and brief information from other relevant studies. An illustrative clinical case concludes each review, allowing the reader to practice applying the findings to a clinical situation.
