Gliomas are a heterogeneous group of brain tumors that are thought to derive from glial cells or their precursors. These tumors exhibit unique biological features and their precise histogenetic origin has remained obscure. They show a highly infiltrative and invasive growth pattern in the brain but rarely metastasize outside the central nervous system. This chapter discusses the etiology, histopathology, molecular genetics, cell biology, immunology, clinical features and diagnosis, and therapy for gliomas.
