6-year-old girl with febrile UTI.

Longitudinal ultrasound of the right kidney shows a parenchymal defect in the upper pole (arrow), so that the calyx (arrowhead) nearly touches the liver.

Axial CT shows a tissue defect in the right posterior upper pole (arrow). The calyx extends to the surface of the kidney. Compare to the normal appearance of a calyx on the left (arrowhead), which is covered by the medullary pyramid and adjacent renal cortex....
